About Us
The Marist Fathers and Brothers are an apostolic order of religious men who strive to live the Gospel in the spirit of Mary. They are committed to prayer and community life, working to build a new Church with a Marian face. Marists work collaboratively within the local Church as instruments of God's mercy, giving hope to His most neglected people.
To understand the Marist way, one first considers their credo: “to be hidden and unknown” — a notion which distinguishes the core of Marist life. Marists generally do not seek credit for their work and, in fact, eschew acknowledgement of their accomplishments. The Marist way is to focus on the task itself rather than who has done it.
At the heart of Marist life is a humble openness to all people, a desire to exclude no one, and a determination to enable others to find God’s will. Marists do “Mary’s work” in ways that reach beyond admiring and honoring her. Marist eyes are fixed on God, and their attention is focused away from the crippling forces of greed, power and pride. Marists endeavor to develop an inner freedom, and in the manner of Mary, build a Christian community which has Mary’s face. The act of living the Gospel after the manner of Mary calls Marists to a spiritual resource that is creative, life-giving and hope-sustaining.
The Marist mission is to spread the good news of God's love and mercy to the world in the spirit of Mary, through whom Jesus chose to take human form.
